June 20 Status

June 21st, 2009

The CtBS house is shingled, sided, wired, plumbed nearly completed for HVAC and is insulated.  The house looks good on the site with gray siding and black shingles.  The volunteers have built a fine house so far.  The next step is drywalling, the installation of porch columns, exterior grading and the start of interior finishing.  Check the volunteer log for work this coming week.

Work on the CTC house is progressing as well.  That house is a little farther along as drywall istallation began on Saturday, June 20.

Next week, CtBS will host the Bike and Build team of cross country bike riders. They started their 4,000 mile trek from Providence Rhode Island, and are passing through Dayton June 30 and will be on site July 1at CtBS to work and have breakfast and lunch.  Join the excitement and come to CtBS July 1 to meet these cross country riders as they support afforable housing through efforts like ours. CtBS will be closed Saturday, July 4 in observance of the holiday.

If you are interested in contributing to the cost of this years project house, leave your name on the blog and we will contact you for a tax deductible contribution.  Thanks to all our donors, volunteers and leaders who have made the build a success so far.

Tuesday, May 26

May 27th, 2009

The CtBS house is wrapped in Tyvec as blue boarding has been completed.  A crew completed construction of the porch for the CTC house.  Wednesday events include delivery of shingles for the CtBS House, and volunteers are needed to stage the shingle bundles on the roof.  Siding materials are due to arrive so siding could begin on the CTC house.  Look for delivery of windows and the installation of entry doors to secure the CtBS site.

We continue to be blessed by good weather, very good voilunteer turn out, excellent work crew efforts and super food from the kind people who feed us at noon.  Serve the Lord by serving one another and come out to the excitement on Stratsburg Drive!  Signup today through Friday.  Remember we don’t work this coming Saturday, May 30th.

Yes, we have power at the site!

May 21st, 2009

The mild weather this Thursday brought the excavator out to do rough grading, the truss delivery from Dry Ridge, KY. ,4 busy volunteers who got the porches ready and poured, Pat Duffley, (the Carpentry instructor who led the building ofthe CTS house) who worked to finish details so siding could begin and two men and a Serco truck who connected the temporary power pole.  The site is is great shape to start the blitz.  And yes we have power to start Blitz Week.

The site has a deck!

May 19th, 2009

Thanks to 14 volunteers and Marty’s crew, the site has a deck installed, and the plumbing water and waste connections to the houes and up to the street.  The storage shed was delivered today and the lumber, sump pump, generator and saw horses are inside.

The word is that Habitat will be back with the Bobcat and pea gravel to fill the front porch and backfill the foundation.

Counting down to Blitz Week! Only 8 days to go to get started on Monica’s new dream home! If you haven’t done so there is still time to sign up for Blitz Week. Long range forecast looks great, so come on down and bring your nail pounders, blink and you’re sure to miss some action!

CtBS is now on the Web!

May 12th, 2009

Thanks to Jeff Priem, our Christian efforts to bring affordable safe housing to people in need will efficiently communicate news of the build.  Using a blog is a contemporary way to provide information to all who are called to assist us in this mission.  May all who volunteer serve the Henderson family in the 2009 build through use of this Blog.

Our Mission

May 11th, 2009

Dayton Ohio Habitat for Humanity, in partnership with God and all people of faith and good will, seeks to eliminate substandard housing in Montgomery County. We renovate or build new, decent and affordable housing that will strengthen individuals, their families and their neighborhoods through home ownership. Families apply to us to earn a house of their own. Once accepted into the program, our “Partner Families” work alongside our many volunteers to build their house. They put in 275 to 550 hours of “sweat” equity before earning their home, which is then sold to them for the cost of materials and any contracted
work on an interest-free mortgage.
